Alzheimer’s disease is a neurodegenerative disorder that usually suffer adults over 65 years. It is the most common type of dementia and causes the patient’s memory loss, learning difficulties and impossibility of carrying out their normal daily activities, among other disorders related to brain functioning.
Early symptoms include loss of short term memory, reasoning problems, lack of understanding of commonly used words, disorientation, changes in the character (may become more irritable or depressed).
Alzheimer’s is a disease that gets worse over time and still no treatment that cures. While you cannot prevent, you can maintain a healthy brain and prolong its welfare.
Some prevention tips are:
1- Healthy diet: it is good to incorporate foods containing Omega 3 and antioxidants and reducing consumption of red meat, saturated fat and refined flour.
2- Check the pressure, cholesterol and sugar levels.
3- Do exercise. Can be half an hour of walking or cycling to reduce the impact. Swimming is also a great exercise
4- Quit smoking
5- Leading an active social life: spending time with friends and family or join volunteer groups are some of the options.
6- Mental challenges: Learning a new language, reading more often, doing crossword puzzles, playing a musical instrument, etc.
7- Reduce Stress: Practice yoga, meditation or do relaxed activities.
